Harmony Landscape Designs is owned by a marvelously talented landscape architect, Michael Altshuler, who is creative, knowledgeable, easy to work with, and honest on all levels. He came highly recommended to me by another client, and developed and implemented a transformation in our front and back landscaping… both hardscape and plants. He has an encyclopedic understanding of plants, with a great appreciation for how to combine them in a beautiful and practical way to achieve multiple centers of focus around the yard. 

My wife and I had just purchased an established home with a great view that was not landscaped in a way that was easy  to use. My wife needed to be able to access the property with either a walker or wheelchair, neither of which was possible. Michael removed all steps, stairs, and flagstone walkways and replaced them with an undulating set of stone paths and gardens. His work was one of passion rather than “just a job”. He tackled it with imagination and continually problem-solved. He took his time, donating innumerable hours above and beyond what was contracted. The result was (is) amazing. 

Since completing the job a couple of years ago, when our gardener was not up to the task, he personally took initiative to find a gardener who was. Subsequently, he has maintained his interest in the property by informally consulting with our gardener to make sure the place remains up to his standards. I couldn’t be more pleased, and would recommend Michael without hesitation.

Michael Altshuler was introduced to me thru the pool company that installed my new swimming pool, having recently purchased a brand new home in Vista with 1/2-acre of completely undeveloped land that required front yard, back yard and poolside landscaping.  

Michael is first and foremost a plant and tree expert, with great knowledge of the broad array of plants and trees grown in southern California, including how to choose them (i.e. to avoid pests, reduce maintenance, etc.), plant them, care for them, and achieve a beautiful, balanced and successful landscape. He also helped me find an expert gardener to maintain the new landscape.  

Beyond his plant and tree knowledge, Michael is also highly skilled in the construction trades, so to the extent irrigation, drainage, utilities or other construction matters come into play, Michael is very well versed in how to problem solve in all of these areas.

Lastly, Michael is extremely creative and very adept at using the leading visual design software to help you visualize, modify and refine whatever project you are doing, and this is more than just pretty pictures, rather, the design incorporates the detailed measurements and spatial relationships between elements so that all kinds of problem solving is able to be addressed before you actually get out there in the landscape with the workers and the materials.

My husband and I met Mike Altshuler, owner of Harmony Landscape Designs through the San Diego Home & Garden Show where his garden display caught our eye.
